Air conditioning replacementand upgrades in Bournemouth

Swap an old, noisy or failing system for a modern, efficient one. A suitable replacement may improve efficiency, noise levels and heating performance. New equipment comes with the manufacturer's warranty.

Overview

When replacement makes sense

Replacement means removing an existing air conditioning system and installing a new one, sometimes reusing suitable pipework, sometimes starting fresh. Upgrades can include moving to a more efficient unit, adding rooms or switching from single-splits to a multi-split.

This service is for homeowners with systems that are old, unreliable, noisy, expensive to run or using outdated refrigerants, and for anyone who has inherited a system with a house purchase that doesn't do the job.

Consider replacement when repairs are becoming frequent or expensive, when a major component like the compressor fails on an older system, when the unit is noticeably loud or inefficient, or when you want better heating performance.

Professional assessment matters because the right answer isn't always replacement. We'll tell you honestly whether repair is worthwhile, and if replacement is better, we'll handle safe removal, refrigerant recovery and a properly commissioned new installation.

What's at stake

The cost of keeping a failing system going

An old system can quietly cost more each year than you realise.

Rising bills

Older non-inverter systems use significantly more power than modern inverter units for the same comfort.

Repeated repairs

Each repair on an ageing system buys time, but the next failure is often not far behind.

Outdated refrigerants

Older refrigerants can be harder and more expensive to source for repairs.

Noise and poor comfort

Worn fans and compressors get louder, and capacity drops as systems age.

Common mistakes homeowners make

  • ✕Spending heavily on a major repair to a system near the end of its life.
  • ✕Replacing like-for-like without checking whether the room needs a different capacity.
  • ✕Reusing old pipework without checking its condition and suitability.
  • ✕Leaving old units on the wall when they could be removed and the wall made good.

Our process

How the job runs, step by step.

  1. Step 1

    Assessment

We inspect the existing system and explain repair versus replacement honestly.

  2. Step 2

    Recommendation

We recommend a new system sized for the room and written up in a clear quote.

  3. Step 3

    Safe removal

Refrigerant is recovered and the old units are removed responsibly.

  4. Step 4

    New installation

The new system is fitted, with pipework renewed or reused where suitable.

  5. Step 5

    Commissioning

Pressure test, vacuum, charge and test in cooling and heating, then handover.

Benefits

What you get from doing it properly.

New electrics, sealed pipework and secure mounting.

Years of reliability

A new system with the manufacturer's warranty, rather than an ageing one.

Lower running costs

Higher SEER and SCOP ratings mean less electricity for the same comfort.

Quieter rooms

A suitable replacement may reduce indoor and outdoor noise, depending on the equipment chosen.

Peace of mind

Honest advice and one team handling removal through to aftercare.

In detail

Replacement and upgrades in detail

Repair or replace?

Age, condition, refrigerant type, efficiency and the cost of the repair all matter. A minor fault on a younger system is usually worth repairing. A compressor failure on a system well over ten years old usually isn't.

We explain the numbers plainly so you can decide, with no pressure either way.

Equipment and pipework

New systems use inverter compressors and refrigerants such as R32. Existing pipework can sometimes be reused if it's the right size, in good condition and properly cleaned, but often renewing it is the safer choice.

New installations are nitrogen pressure tested and evacuated under vacuum before refrigerant is released.

Upgrade options

Options include replacing a single unit like-for-like, upgrading to a more efficient or quieter model, changing indoor unit style, or combining several old single systems into one multi-split.

Upgrading can also improve heating performance, making the system useful through winter.

Homes we work in

We replace and upgrade domestic systems in houses, bungalows and flats across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the wider Dorset and Hampshire area.

We work only in homes.

Signs it's time to replace

There's no fixed age at which an air conditioning system must be replaced, but certain signs suggest it's time to think about it. The system is more than ten to fifteen years old and needs a major repair. It has been re-gassed more than once and keeps losing refrigerant. It's noticeably louder than when it was fitted, or struggles to cool the room on warm days. Your electricity bills during summer have crept up year after year.

Other reasons to upgrade include wanting efficient winter heating from a system that was only ever used for cooling, wanting app control or quieter operation, or wanting to combine several old units into one tidy multi-split system. If parts for your model are becoming hard to find, that's another sign that replacement may soon be the more sensible route.

Whatever the reason, we'll inspect your current system first and tell you honestly whether it still has life in it. If replacement makes sense, we'll explain the options clearly, with a written quote and no pressure to decide on the spot.

Upgrading is also a good chance to rethink positions. If the old indoor unit blew directly onto a sofa or bed, or the outdoor unit sat somewhere awkward, a replacement lets us put both in a better place. We can remove old trunking, fill redundant holes and leave the walls tidy, so the new system looks as good as it performs.

We'll also make sure the new system's controls suit you, whether that's a simple remote, a wall controller or an app on your phone, so it's easy to use from day one.

New equipment then comes with the manufacturer's warranty, and you can book annual servicing to help keep it running efficiently.

Working with us

What to expect when you book replacement & upgrades.

South Coast Air Con Ltd operates as a two-person team specialising in domestic air conditioning. We offer free surveys and quotes for new installations, followed by installation and handover. Servicing and maintenance are available afterwards.

We arrange a time that suits you, seven days a week between 8am and 5pm, including weekends. That makes it easier to book a visit without taking time off work. Before we start, we'll walk you through what we're going to do, where we'll be working and how long it should take.

Our aim is careful workmanship suited to your home. During the survey, we discuss where equipment and pipework can go. Installation includes testing the system and explaining how to use it at handover.

Clear prices, simple payment

For new installations the site survey and quote are free, with no obligation to go ahead. We provide a written quote so you can review the proposed work and price. You can pay by bank transfer or by card through payment links from Tide or our accounting software.

Homes only, by choice

We only work in people's homes. That focus shapes everything: quiet unit choices for bedrooms, tidy pipe routes that respect how your house looks, outdoor positions that take your neighbours into account, and advice based on how families actually use their rooms.

Aftercare that continues

Air conditioning works best when it's looked after. Once your job is complete, servicing and maintenance are available. New equipment comes with the manufacturer's warranty, and we'll explain the terms for the equipment you choose.
