A free air conditioning surveyand written quote in Bournemouth

Find out exactly which system suits your home, where it can go and what it will cost before you spend a penny. No obligation, no pressure, with advice from our two-person team.

Overview

What the free site survey covers

The site survey is a visit to your home where we look at each room you want cooled or heated and work out what's needed. We measure the room, look at windows, roof exposure, insulation and how the room is used, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units can go and how the pipework will run.

It's for any homeowner in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch or the wider Dorset and Hampshire area who is considering air conditioning but isn't sure which type, how big, or how much. You don't need to know anything technical beforehand.

Book a survey when you first start thinking about air conditioning, ideally before the summer rush. It's also worth booking if you've had a quote elsewhere and want a second opinion, or if you're planning a loft conversion or extension and want pipework allowed for.

An in-person survey matters because the right system depends on things you can't judge from a phone call: wall construction, the outdoor unit position, pipe routes, electrical supply and the room's real heat gain. A site survey helps identify the work needed so the quotation can set out the proposed scope and price.

What's at stake

Why buying without a survey costs more

Skipping a proper survey is one of the most common reasons air conditioning disappoints. Here's what can go wrong.

Wrong size unit

Without measuring the room and its heat gains, it's easy to end up with a unit that can't cope or one that's oversized and inefficient.

Surprise extras

Long pipe runs, condensate pumps, extra trunking or electrical work can appear on the day if nobody checked beforehand.

Awkward positions

An outdoor unit that blocks a path, sits under a bedroom window or annoys neighbours is hard to move once fitted.

Unclear comparisons

Quotes that aren't based on the same survey details are impossible to compare fairly.

Common mistakes homeowners make

  • ✕Accepting a price over the phone without anyone visiting.
  • ✕Choosing a unit purely from an online size calculator.
  • ✕Not mentioning future plans, such as adding rooms or converting a loft.
  • ✕Waiting until a heatwave, when diaries fill up and lead times stretch.

In detail

What we check during a survey

The room

We measure floor area and ceiling height, and note window size and orientation. A south- or west-facing room with large windows or a roof directly above gains far more heat than a north-facing room of the same size.

We also ask how the room is used: a bedroom used mainly at night, a home office used all day or a conservatory in full sun each need a different approach to sizing and positioning.

Positions and pipework

We identify where the indoor unit can sit high on a wall for good air distribution, where the outdoor unit can go with adequate airflow and minimal noise impact, and how insulated copper pipework, cabling and the condensate drain can be routed.

Where gravity drainage isn't possible we'll explain the need for a condensate pump. Where pipework has to run externally, we'll show you how trunking will look.

Options we'll explain

Depending on your home we'll compare single-split systems, multi-split systems and different indoor unit styles, such as high-wall or floor console units. We'll explain efficiency ratings (SEER for cooling, SCOP for heating) in plain terms.

We'll also explain how the system can heat as an air-to-air heat pump, and what servicing it will need to keep running efficiently.

Who books a survey

Homeowners with overheating bedrooms, loft rooms, home offices, conservatories and garden rooms. Families wanting several rooms covered. People planning renovations who want pipework hidden before decorating.

We survey homes across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Wareham, Swanage, Weymouth, Ferndown, Wimborne Minster, Ringwood, New Milton, Lymington and Dorchester. We work only in domestic properties.

After the survey

After we visit, you'll receive a written quote that sets out the equipment we recommend, where it will be fitted, how the pipework will run and what the price includes. If anything isn't clear, call us and we'll talk it through. You're welcome to compare it with other quotes; we'd rather you choose with confidence than feel rushed.

If you decide to go ahead, we'll agree an installation date and confirm what will happen on the day. If you'd like to change anything, such as adding a room or moving a unit, we'll update the quote in writing first so there are no surprises.

Working with us

What to expect when you book free site survey & quote.

South Coast Air Con Ltd operates as a two-person team specialising in domestic air conditioning. We offer free surveys and quotes for new installations, followed by installation and handover. Servicing and maintenance are available afterwards.

We arrange a time that suits you, seven days a week between 8am and 5pm, including weekends. That makes it easier to book a visit without taking time off work. Before we start, we'll walk you through what we're going to do, where we'll be working and how long it should take.

Our aim is careful workmanship suited to your home. During the survey, we discuss where equipment and pipework can go. Installation includes testing the system and explaining how to use it at handover.

Clear prices, simple payment

For new installations the site survey and quote are free, with no obligation to go ahead. We provide a written quote so you can review the proposed work and price. You can pay by bank transfer or by card through payment links from Tide or our accounting software.

Homes only, by choice

We only work in people's homes. That focus shapes everything: quiet unit choices for bedrooms, tidy pipe routes that respect how your house looks, outdoor positions that take your neighbours into account, and advice based on how families actually use their rooms.

Aftercare that continues

Air conditioning works best when it's looked after. Once your job is complete, servicing and maintenance are available. New equipment comes with the manufacturer's warranty, and we'll explain the terms for the equipment you choose.
