Conservatory and home officeair conditioning in Bournemouth

Turn a room you avoid into one you use every day. Cool in summer, warm in winter, comfortable for working, relaxing or entertaining all year round.

Overview

Why these rooms need their own solution

Conservatories, garden rooms and home offices are often the most uncomfortable rooms to be in. Glass roofs and large windows let in strong summer sun, and lightweight construction loses heat quickly in winter. Home offices fill with heat from computers, screens and people.

This service is for homeowners who have built or bought a conservatory or garden room they can only use a few months a year, and people working from home who can't concentrate in a stuffy office.

You need it when the room is too hot by mid-morning in summer, too cold in winter, or when electric heaters and fans have become a permanent fixture.

These rooms are demanding. Heat gain through glass is high, so units need careful sizing; garden rooms need pipework and power considered; and home offices need quiet, steady temperature control. A professional survey and installation make the difference.

What's at stake

What an uncomfortable room costs you

These rooms are usually expensive to build. Here's what happens when they can't be used.

Wasted space

A conservatory too hot in summer and too cold in winter may only be usable for a few weeks.

Lost productivity

A hot home office makes work, video calls and concentration harder.

Expensive heaters

Electric heaters struggle to warm glass rooms and can be costly to run.

Damaged furniture

Extreme heat and condensation can fade, warp or damage furnishings and electronics.

Common mistakes homeowners make

  • ✕Choosing a unit sized only by floor area, ignoring glass roof and windows.
  • ✕Relying on portable air conditioners that need a window open to vent.
  • ✕Not planning power and pipe routes to a detached garden room.
  • ✕Fitting the indoor unit where it blows directly onto your desk.

Our process

How the job runs, step by step.

  1. Step 1

    Survey

We measure the room and assess glazing, orientation, construction and use.

  2. Step 2

    Sizing

We calculate capacity for both summer heat gain and winter heat loss.

  3. Step 3

    Installation

The indoor unit is mounted, with pipework and drainage routed neatly to the outdoor unit.

  4. Step 4

    Commissioning

The system is pressure tested, evacuated and run in cooling and heating.

  5. Step 5

    Handover

We set timers and modes to suit how you use the room and explain the manufacturer's warranty and any registration requirements.

Benefits

What you get from doing it properly.

Room comfort

A suitably sized system can help cool or warm the room; performance depends on glazing, insulation and conditions.

Safer than heaters

No trailing cables or hot surfaces, and no open windows.

Protects your investment

Steady conditions reduce heat and condensation damage to furniture and electronics.

Efficient year round

Heat pump heating is efficient compared with direct electric heaters.

Consistent comfort

Set a temperature and the system holds it through the day.

In detail

Conservatory, garden room and office air conditioning in detail

Equipment

Conservatories with limited solid wall often suit floor console units, which sit low on a dwarf wall. Garden rooms and offices usually suit high-wall units. Inverter systems running on R32 refrigerant provide efficient cooling and heating.

Look at SEER and SCOP ratings: SEER for summer cooling, SCOP for winter heating. Both matter in rooms with lots of glass.

Installation considerations

In conservatories, fixings must go into solid structure, not glazing frames. Pipework is routed through dwarf walls or adjoining house walls. In garden rooms, the outdoor unit is usually mounted on the rear or side wall, and the power supply needs to be suitable.

Every system is pressure tested with nitrogen and evacuated before use, and condensate drainage is routed to a suitable outlet.

Different room types

Conservatories and orangeries see the biggest swings in temperature. Garden rooms and cabins are often well insulated but small, so heat builds quickly. Home offices inside the house gain heat from equipment and people.

Each needs a different approach to sizing and positioning, which we cover in the free survey.

Homes we work in

We install in conservatories, orangeries, garden rooms, garden offices and home offices across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Ferndown, Wimborne Minster and beyond.

We work only in domestic properties across Dorset and Hampshire.

Making the most of your room

Air conditioning works alongside sensible room design. In conservatories, blinds on the roof and south-facing glass cut solar gain significantly, letting the system work less hard. In garden rooms, good insulation and draught-proofing keep winter heat in. In home offices, positioning the indoor unit away from your desk and setting a steady temperature avoids draughts while you work.

Use timers so the room is comfortable when you need it, for example warming the office before your working day starts or cooling the conservatory before an evening with friends. Keep the outdoor unit clear of garden growth and book an annual service to keep everything running efficiently. Many homeowners find that once these rooms are comfortable all year, they become the most-used rooms in the house rather than the least. Whether it's a quiet space to work, somewhere for the children to play, or a room to relax in on a warm evening, getting the temperature right is what makes it usable. We'll talk through the best settings for your room at handover.

For home offices, a steady temperature also protects computers, printers and other equipment that can run hot and slow down in a stuffy room. Working from a comfortable, quiet space makes long days and video calls far easier, and means you're not moving your laptop around the house to find a cooler spot.

Working with us

What to expect when you book conservatory, garden room & home office.

South Coast Air Con Ltd operates as a two-person team specialising in domestic air conditioning. We offer free surveys and quotes for new installations, followed by installation and handover. Servicing and maintenance are available afterwards.

We arrange a time that suits you, seven days a week between 8am and 5pm, including weekends. That makes it easier to book a visit without taking time off work. Before we start, we'll walk you through what we're going to do, where we'll be working and how long it should take.

Our aim is careful workmanship suited to your home. During the survey, we discuss where equipment and pipework can go. Installation includes testing the system and explaining how to use it at handover.

Clear prices, simple payment

For new installations the site survey and quote are free, with no obligation to go ahead. We provide a written quote so you can review the proposed work and price. You can pay by bank transfer or by card through payment links from Tide or our accounting software.

Homes only, by choice

We only work in people's homes. That focus shapes everything: quiet unit choices for bedrooms, tidy pipe routes that respect how your house looks, outdoor positions that take your neighbours into account, and advice based on how families actually use their rooms.

Aftercare that continues

Air conditioning works best when it's looked after. Once your job is complete, servicing and maintenance are available. New equipment comes with the manufacturer's warranty, and we'll explain the terms for the equipment you choose.
